Thomas Casey Intro

Hi, my name is Thomas Casey, and I live here in Anchorage.  I am married to an amazing woman, and have three wonderful kids.  I was involved in a motorcycle accident that left me paralyzed as a C4-5 quadriplegic.  As you can probably imagine, life has changed, but is still really good.  I am currently working on my MIS degree, I still have awhile to go to earn it, but I'm enjoying the journey.  I'm taking this Photoshop class because I love working with and manipulating pictures, and would actually like to get into design work.

I love photography, but am stuck using a "point and shoot" camera instead of an SLR because of my physical limitations.  I currently have a Sony H9, which I like.  I use both a Dell desktop and laptop computer running Windows 7.  I also have a printer/scanner/fax combo units, it's not the best, but does the trick.

This first assignment was an easy, but difficult one for me.  I did, re-did, and re-did my name again trying to make it look good, but I'm pretty unsteady, thus the "messy" look. :-)

I look to seeing everyone's projects and your progression throughout the class.

Angelesa Ward intro

Greetings! My name is Angelesa Ward, and I live in the fairly fair city of Fairbanks. I am currently pursuing an Associates in IT Web Design and Administration at UAF. This class counts as an elective, yet I think it'll be simultaneously fun and illuminating to my pursuits. I run a PC, built for me as a gaming computer, with multiple bells and whistles. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7, and so far I love it. It's a bit of a memory hog, but I'll fix that soon enough. I don't have a formal camera (but I borrow a Rebel sometimes), I don't have a scanner (but I have one I can get to), and I don't have a printer (do I have anything?, you ask... YES! oh and I can get to a printer too!). What I do have is the Adobe Design Premium CS5, a Bamboo graphics tablet, and far too much free time. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and have a tendency to tweak things until I'm happy. I'm looking forward to this class, and can't wait to see my skills in Photoshop improve!

Kathleen Boeckman Intro

Hello!

My name is Kathleen Boeckman. I live in Anchorage and work part-time for the UAA Environment and Natural Resources Institute (ENRI). One of my job duties is to create promotional materials for ENRI. I've been learning InDesign and have already created a brochure, a newsletter, and 4 large banners. I'm looking forward to learning more about Photoshop so that I can create more exciting publications.

I am the mother of four children, the youngest of whom just graduated from high school. I grew up in Colorado and have lived in Alaska for 21 years. In addition to working, I am taking classes at UAA to finish my bachelor's degree with a major in English. I love to read, garden, and hike (when I can).

I have worked extensively with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher. In my last position I helped to design and maintain a website using Dreamweaver and HTML. I am excited about learning more about Photoshop!

I didn't include the following information in my intro post:

I use a PC at home and at work. At home, I have Windows Vista (32-bit). At work, I have Windows 7 64-bit. I have a scanner at home, and one at work. My personal camera is a Kodak Easy-Share 15mp. I don't know if it works in Camera Raw, as I haven't had it very long.

Introduction

Hi I'm Jessica Gonzalez and I live in Nikiski, Alaska. I'm taking this course mainly for personal interest as I already am knowledgeable in photoshop. I'm looking forward to receiving instruction from a fresh professor. I'm going for a degree in digital art at KPC (which means digital photography, I was deceived by the title when I first inquired) but, I really want to do graphic and web design. I've also taken a class In Dreamweaver and I look forward to java and CSS classes in the future.

I use PC/windows 7 64bit. I will not use a mac, I don't care what anyone says Its like going to England and I have a personal tech guy for PC (my brother) so it just wouldn't make sense to use a mac I have a Nikon D300, and I don't use it as much as I should. I'd really like something smaller, but I can't operate point and shoots (my images always turn out blown out or blurry with them). And thats it.

Brandy Fishback Intro

I live in Wasilla and I am taking online classes for web design. My 14yr old son has had a Mac Book Pro for a couple of years. He makes apps and does all kinds of cool stuff. He kept telling us to chuck or PC. We fought it for a long time. Now we have a Imac, IPad, and Iphones. Were officially addicted. We love the mac. We just recently purchased the Adobe Master Suite CS5. I am excited to learn Photoshop.I am tired of waiting until my 14yr old gets home to ask him to show me how to do something. I purchased a Canon Rebel over 4 years ago and still shot pictures in auto mode. I do have a lot of good pictures but if I could learn photoshop they would be great pictures. We have a Canon printer/fax/scanner which we recently purchased because we can print wireless from our Iphones or Ipad. I am excited for this class!! ~brandy

Kim Steele - Chicken House

The image was pretty hazy and the colors were washed out. I used autocolor first. Then I used the clone stamp tool on the log to get rid of the yucky gray stuff on top. I then adjusted the histogram until I liked how it looked. I think that’s all.

Kim Steele Intro

Hi. I'm Kim. I live in Wasilla with my hubby and 2 boys. I am working on the Web Design associates degree through UAS. I will be using a PC running Windows XP. I only recently acquired a copy of Photoshop PS5 so I am super excited to learn how to use it. I also just got my first digital SLR camera. I am also taking a digital photography class this summer and am looking forward to learning all about that too!!!
We have 3 computers that are currently hooked up at my house. I have one printer/scanner that can actually print and one that we keep around for the fax capabilities. My husband likes to build gaming computers so 2 of our computers are gamers and one is my laptop.
My plans for my new Photoshop skills include taking super awesome pictures and making them even awesomer(that is too a word:). We'll see how that goes.

Introduction

Greetings!

My name is Jennifer Moss and I will be your instructor for this class. I've mostly lived in Alaska since 1979 and have been in Fairbanks on and off since 1986. My early background includes painting, fine metalsmithing, and b/w photography. In 1990, I discovered Photoshop 1.0 and developed a love for digital image manipulation and graphics. After pausing to start a family, I began designing websites, doing desktop publishing and technical illustration.  I am very familiar with Adobe's software and use them regularly - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Captivate and Flash.  I think it's fun to figure out how to do stuff in these applications, as it can be so immediately rewarding.

I use a MacBook Pro and have been enjoying all the various photography apps for the iPhone and iPad.  I prefer Macs but Windows is fine; I'm a cat person but I like dogs & most other animals too.  For organizing my photos I currently use Picasa because it ties in easily with social applications and is a fast way to find what I am looking for and it doesn't make unnecessary copies of my files.

Last year I spent some time in the Thai jungle making new friends - the photo above is not a digital montage but a real experience! It might be a good image for doing something fun in Photoshop with though!

Getting Started

I am excited about working in Photoshop and am eager to meet you all and work with you this semester!

Please create your first post, Introduction, so we can get to know one another. Post a paragraph or two telling us about yourself: where you live, how you plan to use your new Photoshop skills, what kind of computer operating system you use, and anything else that'll help us visualize our virtual class. Please include a photo if possible.

Also, don't forget to include your nametag assignment and label your post with '01-intro'.

In this post and the next one from me are examples of how your nametag.jpg should look and a blog introduction.
